5 Things Your Pet Needs to Do This Summer (Before the Monsoon Hits!)

In India, summer isn't just a season; it's a battle. While we’re surviving on nimbu paani and keeping the AC at 22°C, our pets are out here wearing permanent fur coats.
Since they don't have to worry about the electricity bill, here is the ultimate desi summer bucket list for your dogs and cats.
1. Secure the AC Vent
Every Indian pet knows this - the most valuable place in the house is the square meter directly in front of the AC or the desert cooler. Your pet’s goal this summer? To lie there so still that you eventually have to step over them like a speed breaker.
The Mission: If they aren't snoring loud enough to drown out the TV, they aren't relaxed enough.
2. Become a Professional Wind-Taster
Whether it’s a car ride to the park or just sticking the head out the window, summer is the season of "The Flappy Face." There is no joy purer than a dog’s ears flapping at 60km/h while they try to taste every scent in the air.
Important Note: Please keep the seatbelt harness on - safety first, aerodynamics second.
3. The Great Mango Tax
In an Indian household, you cannot peel a mango sneakily. It is physically impossible. Whether it’s Alphonsos or Safedas, your pet will be there, staring at you with the intensity of a thousand suns.
The Mission: Every pet must successfully negotiate at least one small, skin-free slice of mango (in moderation, of course!) as payment for being a "Good Boy/Girl."
4. Master the Sploot Cool-Down
Forget fancy beds. In May and June, the cold marble or granite floor in the hallway is the only thing that matters. This is the season of the Sploot: a long body stretched out from the front door to the kitchen, maximizing belly-to-tile contact.
Pro Tip: If you see them doing this, it’s legally required that you do not move them. Use the side exit.
5. The Cold Water Experience
Every desi home has that one cool earthen pot (matka or surahi), and your pet knows that water hits differently. Forget the fancy filtered stuff; they’ve decided that the water from the matka or the extra-chilled water from the fridge is the only "fine dining" hydration they’ll accept this summer.
The Mission : To look at their own water bowl, look back at your chilled glass, and wait for you to share.
